General information
Time is running out for the current Masquechuchos shelter. The “walls” that were once home to hundreds of abandoned and abused dogs are now on their last legs, worn down by years and lack of resources. We can't stay there any longer , and our foster dogs can't wait . We are faced with an urgent need: we must leave .
However, every crisis brings a new opportunity. We have new goals that can come true: a worthy Adoption Centre , a place where not only will animals receive the love and protection they deserve, but where we will also build a community of people who, like you, believe that a better world is possible.
This new centre is the only hope. A space designed to offer them a dignified life while they wait for the family they need so much. But we can´t do it on our own. We know that there are still people that, like us, won’t give up in the face of adversity and believe in a day-by-day struggle for a fair cause.
TO YOU, our call goes out, those who believe that “every life matters”. YOU, who know that collective efforts can make a difference. YOU are an essential part of something that is more than a dream: it is a lives goal, a mission. Your name will remain with us, as a symbol of help in building a better future for these beings that need it so much.
We are not asking for much, only what you can offer, but we do ask that you do not let it go. One doesn’t always have the opportunity to do something really good, something that changes lives. Today is your chance. Collaborate and be part of this project. Help us give our animals the home they deserve while they wait for their forever family.
This centre is not just a shelter, but also a symbol of hope and empathy.
Today you find yourself with the opportunity to do good that will impact hundreds of innocent beings, those who are here now and those who will come in the future.
Make it happen. Make it yours. I trust, what about you?
Our Story / Our Journey
Masquechuchos began in 1993, as a private initiative, in order to offer shelter to helpless dogs. We settled in and improvised field, with very little knowledge, but with our hearts full of desire to help. The facilities were poor, but we did as much as we could to rescue the many animals that arrived (thrown over the fence, tied to the gate, handed over…). 2001 was a turning point, the Avilés kennel closed and we had to rescue 120 dogs that were going to be sacrificed. We have not stopped fighting for them since then.
We knew that we could not stay on that field for good, with its shortcomings and difficulties. We tirelessly searched for a new place where we could not only take better care of the animals, but also evolve towards what we always dreamed of: being a real Adoption Centre.
Thanks to the support of godfathers and godmothers, adopters and so many collaborators, we were able to improve those facilities temporarily.
After decades of struggle, we finally found the perfect field in Llanera, a place with better conditions and every necessary thing to offer a decent life to our dogs. However, the facilities still need to be adapted to meet our vision of care.
After completing all the administrative procedures, we got down to work. These were the first steps of the new Adoption and Animal Empathy Centre of Asturias.
And the last thing we have done, the adapted toilet, as required by the regulations...
And the Adoption Room
Thanks to the initial support of two volunteers and to your first contributions (our force is civilian, we do not receive any public subsidies), we have managed to get this far. We are proud to share a goal with the so many people who are aware of all the needs to be met when you prioritize the life and well-being of animals!!!
But the journey is not over yet. We need to finish the works. Now more than ever, your help is key to going on. Your contributions bring us one-step closer to making the home our animals so deserve a reality. You can be part of the change!
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
After more than 30 years of struggle and effort to give a dignified life to hundreds of abandoned animals, we are now faced with a unique opportunity: to create an Animal Adoption Centre that not only goes on with our work but also elevates it. It is no longer just about collecting and sheltering animals, we have evolved to become a place where the search for families is actively managed, in order to ensure that each dog finds the home it deserves.
- Promoting our #HomeToHome service: Over the years, we have seen first-hand the trauma that staying in a shelter can cause for an animal. That is why we want to promote a service that facilitates the direct transition from one home to another, avoiding unnecessary suffering.
- Giving shelter to the most vulnerable: We are well aware that many of the animals we rescue, due to their advanced age, health problems or character, have few opportunities to be adopted. For them, we want to guarantee a temporary home full of love, where they receive the care they need while they wait for the right family.
- Creating a space for human-animal coexistence. Our new centre will not only be a shelter, but a place where anyone who loves animals, but cannot have one at home, can come and interact with them. An open space where children will learn the value of respect, care and animal welfare, better understanding canine psychology and their emotional needs.
This centre will be much more than a transit point, we want it to become a meeting point, a symbol of hope and empathy, open to new ideas and to the participation of all those who, like us, believe in a better world for animals.
Project Budget and phases
- Basic funding goal: With your support, we will be able to finish the central building, which will be de main core of our operations. This will include finishing the installation of floors, kennels, a washing and nursing space, and the adaptation of a toilet and an office (€10,000). We will also be able to create and fence the playgrounds (€18,000), essential for the well-being of the animals we rescue.
- Ideal funding goal: By reaching the full budget, we will be able to adapt the rest of the spaces to cover the minimum needs for the urgent transfer (will we be able to do this before the cold weather begins?
Our next chapter will be to step in the rest of the needs that are equally important and necessary for our objective, although we will talk about this later on :-)
Why this is important
The project is aimed at those who want to save lives by defending animal rights, zero sacrifice and an ethical management of shelters: animal lovers, adopters, volunteers…
You can be the answer they need by promoting centres like this, by adopting or encouraging sterilisation…!
In short, by promoting a change in social awareness!
Team and experience
After 30 years of work, many people have joined Blanca's project which started a path that not even herself suspected.
Masquechuchos is currently made up of a small management team, led by Blanca, and a hard-working group of volunteers who face all the difficulties of the day-to-day life of a shelter. Although our true STRENGTH lies on the people who collaborate by sponsoring and adopting.
Social commitment
Solidary
We are an NGO that works for animal welfare by trying to create a society that knows how to respect the rest of the living beings in Nature. We want to create a space that serves as a refuge and as an educational centre to achieve a more just society.
